Capacitor Proximity Sensor
a capacitance proximity sensor to detect objects

Edge Sensor

The capacitance "edge sensor" consists of a flexible rubber /vinyl extrusion in which the sensor element are embedded. Any object of high dialectic value (e.g. human body part) brought into proximity to the sensor element is detected by the sensor. When a certain threshold is reached (user selectable) the electronics box can trip a relay, which can reverse or stop a motor or sound a buzzer or trigger an electrical device. The sensitive of the device is adjustable .

The animated gif file depicts triggering of the sensor as a hand approaches
LED's illuminate when the sensor is triggered
computer screen in background indicates capacitance values

indicator LED's on - hand detected
The model above consists of a 7.5 by 5.5 inch ground metal plate onto which a pair of 1/16-inch diameter insulated sensor wires wires were glued. The wires were place ½ inches apart. Indicator LED's off - hand not detected

HCS (Handle Capacitor Sensor),
a capacitance proximity sensor - a touchless sensor for triggering the opening of power doors and windows

The HCS ((Handle Capacitor Sensor)), is a capacitance proximity sensor used to detect a hand that is purposely attempting to open a window or door. The capacitor sensor system detects the hand before it touches the handle and assists the the opening of the window or door by releasing the power lock or actuating a power mechanism to open the window or door. When the hand is detected, the power actuators assist in opening of the door or window
The sensing probe consist of multiple segments. Each segment detects the capacitance of the sensed object and the adjacent environment. When the capacitance reaches a predetermined constant the sensor is triggered and the door or window actuates to assist in open of the door or window. The value of the capacitance is dependent on the position of the hand and its proximity to the sensor probe. The sensor can be set to trigger when the hand is few millimeter to many centimeters from the sensor probe.

Hand actuates the opening mechanism for the window or door by reaching for the handle from the bottom or top

LED in right upper corner lights up as hand triggers the opening mechanism
